Using Walkie Talkies

Whether you are a full-time RVer or a nature lover, these simple walkie-talkie uses can help ease stress and simplify your life!

Why Use Walkie Talkies

Believe it or not, walkie-talkies have been a part of our family dynamic long before full-time RV life.

Once upon a time, we lived in a quiet subdivision in the Kansas City area and leaned on walkie-talkies for bike rides, homeschool field trips, and more!

Keeping in contact with my kiddos even when they aren’t around is essential to me and walkie-talkies are such an easy to do it.

Using Walkie-Talkies for Travel

Being a full-time RV family that travels part-time, this is one of our favorite ways to use walkie-talkies!

My husband, daughter, and I travel in the truck that hauls our fifth wheel while our teenage boys follow behind in our SUV.

Walkie-talkies are seriously perfect for this scenario, you guys!

Walkie Talkie Uses for Travel Convoys

It would be a hassle if I had to dial up my boys for every little thing on a 10+ hour long car trip. However, with walkie-talkies I can easily (and quickly) tell them about a song on the radio, to watch out for wildlife, or that we are making pit stop at the next exit for gas.

Plus, they are hands-down the best tool to have when parking the RV.

My oldest hops out and can easily direct my husband by helping him get backed into our new spot.

It’s such an important tool for all full-timers.

Walkie-Talkie Uses While Stationary

Ok, technically this use isn’t just for full-time RV families and can easily be adapted to stationary living no matter the type of home you have.

We actually used walkie-talkies for this purpose in our sticks and bricks home all the time!

Using Walkie Talkies at Home Everyday

If you are a work-from-home parent that has kiddos that crave free-range outdoor play but you can’t keep eyes on them all the time, walkie-talkies to the rescue!

We are currently stationary at our summer spot in Montana and my 10-year-old daughter is able to ride bikes, play with friends, take off the trash, puppy sit, and play in our lot without my eyes on her 100% of the time because we check in with walkie-talkies every few minutes.

So, if you have kiddos that have no use for a phone yet, walkie-talkies are a sure winner.

Using Walking Talkies for Hiking

Yes, yes, yes!

We never go hiking with our kids without walkie-talkies!

Important Extras for Hiking Trips

Not only is this great if you have someone walking ahead or your group splits up on purpose, but they are wonderful to lean on if someone has to run back to the car for supplies or separation happens on accident.
